When going to put in a new ceiling fan or even if replacing an existing one there is a decision to make. That decision is whether or not the new item will have a light fixture attached to it. In the case of a fuse box, you should have spare fuses on hand in order to replace them as they go.

If there is any damage to the cord it should be replaced and not repaired. The repairing makes the cord less safe and not as good of a conductor which could lead to electrical shorts.
